Welcome back to our excursion spotlight series! This week we are focusing on Birmingham.
Birmingham is located in the West Midlands. It is known as Britain’s second city due to it being the largest and most populated city outside London.
Birmingham grew and became internationally recognised during the Industrial Revolution, when it was at the forefront of worldwide advances in science, technology, and economic development.
Thanks to its innovative 18th century Industrialists building a canal network to aid trading networks, the city has more miles of canals than Venice with 56 kilometres of waterways. And with over 8,000 acres of parks and open space, it is one of the greenest cities in the UK.
Birmingham has a rich history and students will have a chance to explore the city via a walking tour. There will also be time to explore the city centre further and the hundreds of shops!
